Theresa Makoons-Solarz, MS, LP

I earned my Master’s in Counseling and Community Psychology from St. Cloud State University in 1991, after completing my bachelor’s degrees in Sociology, Education, and Coaching at the College of St. Benedict in 1989. I am also a Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy Certified Supervisor, bringing 35 years of experience to my work.

My approach is person‑centered, integrating cognitive‑behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and a variety of supportive techniques. I believe therapy can hold both hard work and humor, and I strive to create a safe, relaxed space where you can tell your story, recognize your strengths, and build resilience throughout your healing journey.

I work with adults navigating adjustment and life transitions, self‑esteem concerns, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, Serious and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI), stress management, and life balance. I also support individuals who have family members with mental health challenges and need long‑term guidance and understanding.

Outside of work, I enjoy time with my family (including our cat), swimming, playing cards and board games, yard work, and watching movies and documentaries.
